Lamine Yamal was the star of the show as Spain produced an impressive 4-1 victory over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League, while England secured their first Group A3 win with a hard-fought 2-0 triumph away to Czechia.
Spain came into the match full of confidence after beating England on Matchday 1, and they wasted little time taking control in Sevilla. Yamal opened the scoring inside the first two minutes, calmly beating Dominik Livaković after a clever flick from Fermín López.
Croatia responded through Dion Beljo, who marked only his third senior international appearance with his first goal for the national team. The forward rose to meet Ivan Perišić’s cross and headed the ball beyond the Spanish defence.
Spain quickly regained their advantage. Marc Pubill, who was celebrating his first international goal, rose highest to head home a superb delivery from Yamal.
The Barcelona youngster was not finished. Yamal added his second goal after receiving a perfectly weighted pass from Pedri before firing into the near corner.
Nico Williams completed Spain’s convincing victory in the 89th minute, showing excellent composure inside the penalty area before firing into the net.
England Earn Important Victory in Prague
England also returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Czechia, although the hosts made life difficult before being reduced to ten men.
Czechia’s task became even tougher midway through the first half when Pavel Šulc was sent off for a foul on Elliot Anderson. England immediately took control, with Morgan Rogers hitting the post and goalkeeper Matěj Kovář producing an excellent save to deny Harry Kane.
The breakthrough finally arrived shortly after half-time. Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a perfectly weighted cross into the box, and Anthony Gordon rose to head the ball into the bottom corner.
England captain Harry Kane then doubled the advantage with a smart finish after reacting quickly to a loose ball inside the area.
The result gave Thomas Tuchel’s side their first Group A3 victory and provided a valuable boost as England continue their Nations League campaign.
Italy Bounce Back Against Türkiye
Italy also enjoyed a much-needed response, defeating Türkiye 4-1 on Monday.
The victory helped ease some of the disappointment from their opening defeat against Belgium and gave the Azzurri an important three points as they looked to recover their momentum.
France, meanwhile, secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Belgium. The visitors looked set for another positive result until Michael Olise produced a stunning late goal to give France all three points.
Greece Make History Against Germany
Greece claimed a historic victory over Germany on Sunday, with Dimitris Kourbelis scoring the decisive goal.
His effort took a deflection on its way into the net, but Greece will not care how it went in. The victory marked their first-ever win over Germany and gave them a memorable moment in the Nations League.
Portugal also collected three points away from home, with Gonçalo Ramos scoring the winning goal against Norway in Oslo.
Best of the Rest
Scotland suffered a difficult night as Sébastian Pocognoli’s first home match as manager ended in a 3-0 defeat against Switzerland.
Switzerland took advantage after Jack Hendry was sent off in the 11th minute, with Ricardo Rodríguez converting the resulting free-kick. Nico Elvedi and Zeki Amdouni then added further goals after the break.
Slovenia moved into second place behind Switzerland in Group B1 after beating North Macedonia 2-0. Sandi Lovrić opened the scoring with an angled finish in the 55th minute before substitute Aljoša Matko scored his first senior international goal to seal the victory.
Slovakia also claimed a 2-1 win over Kazakhstan. Twenty-year-old Leo Sauer scored his first international goal, while experienced defender Dávid Hancko struck the decisive winner.
Elsewhere in League C, Albania defeated San Marino 3-0 and Iceland recorded an identical scoreline away to Luxembourg.
With several teams now finding their rhythm, the latest round of Nations League fixtures has produced plenty of goals, breakthrough moments and important results as the competition begins to take shape.
